About the Centennial Conference
The Centennial Conference was created in 1981 when Keith Spalding, then-president of Franklin and Marshall College, announced that
eight private colleges in Pennsylvania and Maryland had decided to establish a round-robin football schedule among institutions
with similar attitudes and practices. In 1992, all of the sports played at the colleges were added to the conference, as well as,
three additional colleges that were invited to join as charter members.
Member colleges are NCAA Division III, liberal arts colleges and universities that share similar academic goals and a commitment to the educational experiences of their student-athletes.
The Patriot League consists of eight, Division I East Coast colleges and universities that share the belief that athletes
should be academically representative of their class. The league was founded as a football conference in 1986. Since then,
twenty-one sports have been added. The league's student-athletes are frequently nationally recognized for both their academic
and athletic achievements.
