This service was SO helpful as I helped my son try to figure out where to apply. It gave him great confidence in some of his safety schools, and let him know he was in the ballpark on most of his others. I found it to be an invaluable tool as I've helped my kids navigate a very confusing process! I couldn't have done it without Go4College!”
About Georgetown University
Founded in 1789, the same year the U.S. Constitution took effect, Georgetown University is the nation's oldest Catholic and Jesuit university. Today, Georgetown is a major international research university that embodies its founding principles in the diversity of its students, faculty, and staff, as well as its commitment to justice and the common good, intellectual openness, and international character. Georgetown is located on a hilltop overlooking the Potomac River in the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC, just a few miles from the heart of the city.
In 1789, the University's founder, John Carroll, put students to work studying the texts of classical culture, science, philosophy and theology. Today, Georgetown College continues this tradition of liberal education as the best preparation for life, with an international dimension reflected in the offerings of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics.
Students apply to one of four undergraduate schools within the University: Georgetown College, the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, the Robert Emmett McDonough School of Business, or the School of Nursing and Health Studies. Regardless of which school they choose, students join in a common learning experience, taking courses in schools other than their own, living and studying with students of every major and background.
Georgetown has 26 sports teams competing in NCAA Division I Athletics as members of the Big East Conference and Patriot League. The college also has nationally recognized programs in men's and women's basketball and lacrosse and men's soccer.
Georgetown University has nearly 200 organizations and student activities ranging from religious societies to sports clubs. Georgetown has no fraternities or sororities. Approximately two-thirds of undergraduates live in college-owned, operated, or affiliated housing.
