+ Why do I need to know my chances of admissions?

Students who know their percentage chances of admission can make informed decisions about which colleges to apply to because they know which colleges match their background and achievements. They can accurately select reach, likely and safety colleges based on the percentage chances of admission they receive. Students may find that they have an excellent chance of getting into colleges that they thought were reach schools and may need to add more competitive colleges to their application pool. Also, by ensuring that students are considering a range of colleges, they lower their risk of being disappointed when the acceptance letters start showing up in the mail. They also maximize their chance of getting into the most competitive colleges that will accept them and save a lot of time and money by not filling out unnecessary applications.

+ How accurate are your estimates of students' chances of admission?

Go4College.com's has averaged 94% accuracy since its founding in 2001.
  • Class of 2007 - 96.7%
  • Class of 2008 - 96.4%
  • Class of 2009 - 98.3%
  • Class of 2010 - 98.1%
  • Class of 2011 - 83.6%

Our accuracy for the Class of 2011 was affected by the decision of some colleges to exclude the recently added Writing section of the SAT in their admissions decisions. While an accuracy rate of 84% is still quite high, we are confident that our accuracy will return to the 90%+ level this year, since there have been no significant changes in standardized testing or other admissions fundamentals this year.

+ How do you take essays into account when determining a student's chances of admission?

Our predictions of your chances of admission assume that you will write an essay which is commensurate with your high school performance, performance on standardized tests and other achievements. In other words, we assume that an "A" student will write an "A" essay and that a "C" student will write a "C" essay. Based on our analysis and experience, essays are most important for students who are on the borderline (approximately 50% chance of admission). An above average essay may help these students get in. Likewise, if a student's chance of admission is only slightly above 50% or better or her essay is below the quality that is expected, then her essay may hurt her chances of admission. If you would like counseling on writing your essay or help editing it, please contact us.

+ Does applying early decision or early action increase a student's chances of being accepted?

Based on our experience your chances of being accepted are not significantly affected by applying early. While the statistics for many colleges show higher percentages of acceptance for early admission when compared to regular admission, this statistic must be put in perspective. The early admissions pool includes a significantly higher percentage of applicants whose chances of admission are higher than those of the average applicant; these students have outstanding credentials. In addition, most legacies and major donors apply for early admissions and are accepted. Likewise, recruited athletes who apply early are pre-selected by coaches; therefore, only those athletes who are likely to be accepted apply early. In short, when the differences between the early admission pool and the regular admissions pool are taken into account, a student's chances of admission are not significantly affected by applying early. An exception is in borderline cases in which applying early may make a difference because it shows the applicant's interest in the college.

+ Can transfer students use your service?

Absolutely. Transfer students who are interested in obtaining their chances of admission at particular colleges should select colleges and input their background and achievements from high school including all of their standardized test scores. The percentage chances of admission that they will receive can be used as a ballpark figure in determining where to apply. Of course, the transfer student's current GPA and the competitiveness of the student's current college should be weighed into those chances of admission. If you are a transfer student, we would be happy to help you figure out how much to weigh your current GPA and college. Please contact us.

+ Can you describe your money back guarantee?

We will refund the fee for final predictions of admission if our predictions are not correct. If we predict that your chance of getting in to a college is above 50% (i.e. 51%, 75%, etc.) and you are not accepted by that college based on the same standardized test scores that you provided to us, then we will refund the fee you paid for that college. Similarly, if we predict your chance of getting into a college is below 50% and you get in, we will refund the fee you paid for that college. Fortunately, we have very few requests for refunds.
